Monk seals got their name from being mostly solitary, like monks and having loose skin around their neck. Hawaiian monk seals live in the remote Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, but can be found on the habitad main islands but in small numbers. Monk seals spend most of their time at sea, but come ashore to rest on beaches and even utilize fringe vegetation as shelter from storms.
